"Get Organized and Set Goals for 2009" - Digital Photography Podcast 157

Are you ready to have a productive 2009? Is your camera gear organized, do you have all of your registration numbers accessible, is your workflow in order? Then, once all of that is in place, have you set goals for 2009? This should be the year you finally build that website, or maybe put a show together to display at the local coffee shop.

At this moment in time, we can either look back or look forward. I'm most interested in planning for a productive 2009.

Monthly Photo Assignment

About Face is the January 2009 photo assignment. Think about creative ways to make a portrait. It doesn't always have to be the "smiling into the camera" composition. You can read more about how to submit on our Submissions page. Deadline for entry is Jan. 31, 2009.

Good ideas! Thanks again for having my leaf image on the home page for the whirlwind assignment. I think one major goal for me in 2009 is to actually submit photos to all of the contest and assignments that I come across. Its unbelievable how many contest I think im going to take part in only to get too busy and completely miss the deadline. It can only make you better to get out there shooting for a specific theme and I hope to do so more often.

Great podcasts, Derrick...you've inspired me to try to get my plans more organized. Thanks from a very recent podcast subscriber...

You inspired me to take inventory of my equipment. Instead of using iPhoto and having to try to find an Apple Computer I created a document in Pages. I have a picture of the item, serial number, date of purchase and cost. I then save it as a PDF and burn it to a CD. This way if I have to report it to the police or my insurance agent it can be read on any computer. I also have a copy on a flash drive that I keep in my car.

Yes, one of the major points of the podcast was to get organized so you're in a better position to get your photography in front of people. We'll continue the Photo Assignments in 2009, plus I have some new goodies planned. And see if you can organize an additional project or two, such as a small gallery show or new web page. Now is the time to start planning.

Derrick,
I'm on dial up...Site working fine. Not sure if your people considered us or not but thanks.

Another podcast of that made me think. Had covered off on the things you mentioned.

A fantastic thing you do is include point & shoot people. Amateurs spend money. Pros don't! (much) We don't all need to save in RAW. Therefore we don't need DSLR's. (As you mentioned some PP's do save in RAW)But with the 15 x Zoom & 12 MP what's not to like? My R3 + MP4 and 645 sit on the shelf lonely as I use my Canon with the underwater housing every day.
If you ever want to do a show on Point & shoots I'll gladly contribute.

I commend your efforts & will continue to listen with interest.

This is my first time i visit here. I found so many interesting stuff in your blog especially its discussion. From the tons of comments on your articles, I guess I am not the only one having all the enjoyment here! keep up the good work.
