"Final Cut Pro X: Shooters Take Note" Digital Photography Podcast 280

A gap in my photography software had been the ability to create professional videos from the content captured with my DSLR. Until recently, I depended on iMovie and the slideshow function in Aperture to meet my needs. Then Final Cut Pro X was announced. Totally rewritten from prevous version, FCPX gave me professional movie editing tools in a package I could understand. In today's podcast, I discuss my first movie edited in Final Cut Pro X, Hot Air, and share what I've learned along the way.

Also, I have lots of updates in the "Virtual Camera Club" segment, including news about the Fall 2011 Workshop, a new workshop sponsor (that I think you're going to love), and more.

Hi Derrick,

Just listened to your podcast about the new Final Cut Pro X.
I know there has been a hugh amount negative postings about this software.
If you look in the App store the negative comments out number the positive ones.

My question is how compatible did you find it to be with Aperture 3? I know you are able to go directly from Aperture 3 to iMovie. In fact iMovie seems to find videos located in Aperture. Have you found that FCPX will do the same?

Also do you think Lynda.com will have any training videos coming anytime soon on using FCPX?

Best,

Stu

Hi Derrick,

Good Final Cut Pro X comments by you on TDS and TWIP.

What I found interesting is that your MacBook Air (maxed out) was able to run this software.

Do you think that a MBA is sufficient as the only computer for editing FCPx and Aperture? Do you add an external monitor for home use? Do you switch to a higher performance Mac at home?

thanks,
Jay

Stu, I think the problem in FCPX with videos in Aperture is actually a bug but there is a workaround. Here are some things I found
