- Caption: I could not find a whirlwind, so I thought maybe a whirlpool would do. The falls are those of the Mohawk River at Cohoes NY. Textile mills driven by water diverted upriver from the falls defined Cohoes in the 1800s. Cohoes was also home to the greatest concentration of locks on the Mohawk Canal, which ran astride the falls. The river now powers a hydroelectric plant out of frame to the left of the falls.
