On April 16, 2013, Apple released iPhoto 9.4.3 that includes improved control over Photo Stream (the picture management feature of iCloud).

Via iPhoto 9.4.3, pictures can now be exported from Photo Stream using the Export command in the File menu. I tested this, and the full size image with EXIF data was easily copied from my Photo Stream to the desktop using the Export command in iPhoto.

Other improvements with this update include: pictures can now be deleted from My Photo Stream by dragging to the trash, and, Raw images manually imported from My Photo Stream are now editable.

I use iPhoto on my Mac to backup and manage my Photo Stream. This handful of improvements will make my work just a little bit easier.

The opening image for Chapter 1 is a model I work with, Alyssa Jayne, holding a Canon DSLR. She's wearing a Lowepro DSLR Video Fastpack 250 AW. The location is the Santa Rosa Bus Station in downtown Santa Rosa, CA.

This photo is from a series of images that I originally shot for Lowepro to be used in print advertising for their new camera backpack. Alyssa was excited about the possibility of being featured in a print ad. Unfortunately, much to her disappointment, none of the images from this series were ever used by Lowepro.

I really liked many of the shots however. I think Alyssa looks great against the softened background of the bus station. The designers at Wiley agreed, and happily used this image as the chapter opener for Chapter 1.

Funny how things work out. Instead of being featured in a print ad, Alyssa is featured in a book, and with a shout out in the Acknowledgements. You just never know...
