After every major photo assignment, I take a few moments to review how effective my plan was, and try to note any lessons that I should remember for future jobs. I thought you might enjoy sitting-in on my postmortem for the LOOK3 Festival of the Photograph assignment in Charlottesville, Virginia. I talk about my plan going in, share a few anecdotes from the event itself, then review how it all worked. And if you have the TDS Podcast App, you'll be able to view a 3-minute movie that I produced in Aperture 3 from Charlottesville.

I saw an interview with a photography professor who commented that many of today's memories are being recorded on mobile phones, and those images often aren't downloaded off the device. That got me thinking about the challenge of preserving our important moments and best work. In a sense, this week's episode is Part 2 to the Dealing with My Past show. I have an idea about how we can preserve our best work, and that's what I talk about today.

Those of us who were photographers in the Analog Age (pre-2000), have an inventory of 4x6 prints, negatives, slides, and enlargements. For months I've been thinking about what to do with all of these boxes I've been lugging around for years.

Finally, this past weekend, I set a course of action. I hadn't really planned on making such dramatic decisions. Actually, it all started with a garage sale. And as often happens in life... one thing led to another.

I talk a lot about shooting great portraits, and your bag of tricks can include very simple setups as well as complicated ones. This week I tell the story of how our Aperture class shot a series of portraits using the simpliest of setups, yet got terrific shots for our post production work.

The first consideration is color temperature. What type of lighting are you working in, and do you need to compensate for it? Then, the use of color in your composition. Often, by working with complementary colors you can add punch to your image. Or, maybe working with a specific color for a specific item. Then there is the lack of color: B&W photography. Sometimes removing color is the answer to the perfect image. I discuss all of these topics, and more, in this week's podcast.

DigiScoping -- putting a camera up to the eyepiece of a spotting scope -- has been around for a while. But after attending the Florida Birding and Photo Festival, I learned that it's at a whole new level now. In this week's show I talk about the state of DigiScoping, wildlife in Florida, and more.

Photography is a fantastic part time job. It can help pay for your equipment or supplement your regular income. A strategy I recommend for building your business is to develop multiple revenue streams. In this week's episode, I explain this concept and provide a few examples for you to consider.

The Canon EOS Rebel T3i(600D) is not your father's entry level Rebel. The latest consumer DSLR from Canon features a 3-inch articulated LCD, 18 MPs of resolution, full HD movie recording, and more. And now you can get the 18-135mm EF-S zoom as the kit lens. It's quite a package. And I've been shooting with one for weeks now, and have lots to report about the T3i, then how it stacks up against the 60D. Plus some discussion on should you consider the 5D Mark II now, or wait and see what happens later this year.
