Working efficiently in Aperture or Lightroom allows you to spend more time being creative and less fooling around with medicore shots. In this week's podcast, I cover the 5 basic workflow steps: Intelligent Import, 2-Pass Sort, Isolate Your Best, Edit to Perfection, and Share Your Work.
This the same approach I teach in my Aperture 3 Essential Training on lynda.com and in the TDS Aperture Workshops.

Derek, terrific podcast as usual. I have one suggestion for your step 3 in the workflow. Each project I set up (I do 1 per month) I also create 4 smart albums for; not rated, 2 star+, 3+ and 4+ shots. This way I can go through the newly imported shots in “not rated” smart album and “star” them. Doing this then automatically sorts the shots into albums without me having to drag and drop shots or change the “sort by” option in projects.
Hi Steve,
I totally agree. As you probably figured, there are many smaller steps to the 5-Step Workflow. That's why we spend 2 days on the Aperture Intensive Workshop. And Smart Albums are definitely an important part of that. Thanks for sharing your approach to using them.
Thanks for the 5-Step Aperture Workflow ideas. Automatic backup is huge for me. Why did I not know that was there? Since version 2, I've been backing up my cards as a separate step and now I combine that with import.
Hi Derrick we meet in an airport via your voice and my recognizing it. Your lovey producer was there.
Thanks for covering Aperture, AP, a program I use religiously. Was wondering if in your podcasts or writings on AP did you cover the Color problem of importing large color gamet tif files into aperture and having the colors hosed? example Ps solid color (72, 182, 70) Adobe98 tif
Would like to hear your comments on this bug. Sure hop its fixed in AP4
Thanks great energy and enthusiasm !! David
